"Today when I think of reentry court, I am reminded that nearly every offender sentenced to time in custody will return to the community from whence they came. And thus, every sentencing court is in fact, a reentry court, creating a pathway for the offender’s reentry into society." -Jeff Tauber

NEW DIRECTIONS

Community-Based Visions for Justice Systems

I described in a “Series of Observations”,  non-western alternative justice systems that exist around the world and how the most effective are often community based ( described as “Restorative Justice” in the U.S).

This new series called “NEW DIRECTIONS”, describes “Alternative Visions to Western Criminal Justice Systems”, seeking to show how traditional community-based systems can exist alongside current Western systems of criminal justice.

VISION 10: POPE FRANCIS CALLS FOR JUSTICE SYSTEM REFORM

VISION 9: BUILDING TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY JUSTICE INTO COURTS

VISION 8: THE DRUG COURT FIELD NEEDS TO OWN ITS OWN HISTORY

VISION 7: A LAST CHANCE BEFORE PRISON

VISION 6: LONGER SENTENCES= DIMINISHING RETURNS

VISION 5: VETERAN’S COURT: A HARBINGER OF THINGS TO COME

VISION 4: THROW OUT VIOLENT OFFENDER LIMITS

VISION 3: A CEREMONY TO HONOR THE HEALED

VISION 2: REJECTING THE CONVENTIONAL PRISON

VISION 1: INTEGRATING TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY JUSTICE INTO PENAL SYSTEMS
